MBABANE (8 August 2025): Mbabane Swallows leaders have moved quickly to put down a rebellion from factions of the club who are demanding accountability for the status of the club. The rebels who are led by the club’s regional chairmen have called a mass meeting at Malkerns on Sunday where they have demanded key leaders of the club be present to answer questions.
Addressing the club’s followers, Swallows spokesman Knowledge “Bhambo” Ngwenya called for calm: “Ma SwaiSwai” Ngwenya appealed on the Sports Show on national radio. “We all know that we have problems with money. You know when we have money we celebrate with trophies. Let us accept that right now we have no money, and we have to live with that”.
Ngwenya said Swallows are resolving the situation and have secured a Mozambican sponsor who has confirmed depositing money to kickstart Swallows preparations for the Trade Fair 8-Bet tournament in September and the MTN League that follows immediately after.
“Donaldo Birage Enterprise (DBE) representative Niczar Amade have signed a 3-year contract that will strengthen the revival of the Birds. Now let’s focus on Niczar Amade’s support that is helping Swallows recover. Let’s avoid things that might upset his efforts,” he said.
“We know there are delays with the money being transferred to Swallows. But these are delays with the banking system that will shortly be resolved.”
Appeals for peace
“We are appealing for peace from everyone. Right now, we have been upset by branch chairmen who have called a meeting at Malkerns on Sunday. They have really upset us. They are demanding the presence of everyone in the Swallows top leadership. This is not how we do things in Swallows. The national supporters committee is the only one that has the mandate for calling a meeting. We have not sanctioned that Sunday’s meeting. On Sunday our supporters must go to church because there will be no meeting. You will be informed once a legitimate meeting is arranged.”
Swallows, Ngwenya said, intend to use all five of their international players’ slots and have already signed their first two international players. “We will shortly sign the other three.”
As part of preparations for the league, Swallows will be travelling for friendly international matches in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“We leave immediately after the Trade Fair 8Bet tournament,” the Swallows spokesman said.
This weekend, Swallows are travelling to the Mhlume stadium where Ngwenya said they have arranged three games as part of preparing for trade fair 8-Bet.
