ADDIS ABABA (03.09.2026): Former minister of natural resources and recently Eswatini Permanent Representative at the African Union (AU) Commission, Ambassador Mahlaba Mamba is returning home following the end of his tour of duty in Addis Ababa.
At his AU farewell event in Addis Ababa yesterday, the Chairman of the AU Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf described the outgoing ambassador’s ‘active and constructive engagement in the work of the Union as reflective of the Kingdom’s continued commitment to the African Union and the continental agenda’.
In East Africa, Ambassador Mamba was also accredited as Ambassador to Ethiopia and as High Commissioner to Kenya. The East Africa post however is also responsible for West Africa, especially Ghana where there are a lot of Eswatini students. He also represented the Kingdom at the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) which is based in Ethiopia.
Mamba won a seat in the constituency of Dvokodvweni in the Lubombo during the 2003 election and subsequently became minister of natural resources.
At the end of his cabinet term, he joined the diplomatic corps and was assigned to duty in the Far East, based in Malaysia before his appointment to East Africa.
“I’m returning home for a well-deserved rest to look after my family and livestock,” Ambassador Mamba promised.
